May House

Finished to the highest standard, May House perfectly combines modern and traditional decor. Located close to the centre of Whitby, this striking property has it all. Sleeping up to six guests, May House is perfect for families and groups of friends looking for a seaside holiday on the Yorkshire coast.  May house is also dog friendly.

May House has a cosy living space. With a comfy sofa, a relaxing armchair, and a flat-screen TV this really is the ideal place to relax after a busy day exploring the area.

The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances so every care has been taken to ensure you have everything you need to make the most of your self-catering stay. Still remaining traditional in decor, the kitchen has white cupboards and grey work tops. The dining area within the kitchen includes a wooden table, as well as chairs for you and your guests.

Head to any of the two bedrooms on the first floor and you’ll find one room with a king-size bed, and another room with two single beds. The single beds can be linked together to form a king-sized bed if this is more suitable for you stay.

The second floor bedroom also has a king-sized bed. All beds in the property have plush bedding and premium bed linens.

You’ll find a well equipped bathroom on the ground floor, whilst the second floor bathroom has a shower, WC and wash basin.

Property Access and Directions

Harbourside View is part of Jutland House on New Quay Road – a modern development built in 2006, easily recognisable above the parade of shops that includes William Hill and Specsavers. Entry is via Vipond’s Lane, and guests will receive either a master key or key fob for secure access.

Once inside, you can choose to take the lift or the stairs to the second floor. Apartment 7 – Harbourside View – is directly ahead as you exit the lift. If someone in your group arrives without a key, don’t worry! Simply use the intercom system allows for easy remote access.

Heating is controlled via a wall-mounted thermostat in the entrance lobby.

Five-Storey Period Townhouse with Original Features, Plenty of Space, and Exceptional Views

Set across five generous floors, this well-loved, dog friendly townhouse in the heart of Whitby offers room to breathe, character throughout, and one of the best views in town—stretching out towards the sea and the iconic Whitby Abbey. This isn’t a glossy show home—and it doesn’t pretend to be. But what it does offer is something increasingly rare: a home with heart, space, and a real sense of place.

The layout is practical and distinctive, with a main room on each level, connected by a traditional staircase with carved spindles and natural timber handrails. You’ll spot exposed beams, uneven walls, and original wood panelling throughout the property—clear signs of its age and authenticity, which give the home a unique, lived-in feel.

It’s the kind of place where muddy boots and sandy paws are more than welcome—ideal for dog lovers who want a comfortable, relaxed base by the sea.

The location couldn’t be more convenient, nestled in the gentrified Victorian quarter. Just moments from both the beach, the harbour and beautiful Pannett Park, the house is perfectly placed for exploring all that Whitby has to offer—whether that’s walking the famous 199 Steps, browsing the town’s shops and galleries, or sampling fish and chips by the seafront. All the attractions Whitby has to offer are within easy walking distance with a plethora of gastro pubs and restaurants on the doorstep.

Important Information.

During the late Autumn – the top bedroom is being converted from a double bedroom to a sky room, giving even more opportunity for guests to enjoy the stunning views across to the Abbey and Sea.

You’ll reach the apartment via the stairs to the top floor, stepping into a welcoming entryway with exposed beams and a handy spot for shoes and coats, so you can instantly settle in and make yourself comfortable.

Bedrooms

The master bedroom is tucked under the eaves, with a sloping ceiling, drawers for your things, hanging storage. As well as this there is also an attic window with views over Whitby and a blackout blind for lazy lie-ins.
The second bedroom is thoughtfully furnished with two single beds and boasts a porthole window looking out onto the old street, and a hanging rail for clothes. It’s a great room for children, friends sharing, or even grown-ups who just enjoy their own space.

If you’d prefer a larger bed, the singles can be pushed together and the mattresses zipped to create a super-comfy king-size.
