The first thought of walks in North Yorkshire always goes to the North Yorkshire Moors. However, for those unfamiliar with the Moors it can be very easy to get lost given how big they are. So, our recommendation just outside the Moors is the North Riding Forest Park.
The North Riding Forest Park has walking paths for everyone, just as accessible for prams as experienced hikers. Here you will be treated to gorgeous countryside and woodland areas, making for a lovely afternoon out.
Despite how many facilities there is here, the main attraction here is the popular, Dalby Forest. Explore the North Yorkshire wildlife for yourself, in this 8000 acre landscape visited by over 400,000 people every year.
What’s there to do at North Riding Forest Park?
There is plenty for all the family here, with there being many on-site facilities. One being a children’s playground, another being a café, and of course the lovely nature trails. Make sure to check events before visiting, Dalby Forest has plenty of unique activities throughout the year.
The complete trail of this forest is 6 miles long, covering the entire outside of the Park. Terrains changes a lot throughout the forest, some being partially paved, uphill, and more, being a challenging path. Despite this, the forest is accessible for all, prams, dogs, mountain bikes, casual strolls and hiking.
Being a National Nature Reserve there is so much wildlife to see, with trees covering 23% of the forest. The Park itself is ancient woodland, being inhabited as far back as the Bronze Age. Not only is there paths to explore, explore the treetops at Go Ape Adventure Centre.
