Suppose you’re looking for a spot that combines Whitby’s history with a touch of modern comfort. In that case, Sneaton Castle is a place we never hesitate to recommend. Set on the edge of town, just a short stroll from the centre, this striking 19th-century building feels like something out of a storybook. With its turreted charm, views over the Esk Valley, and a welcoming atmosphere, it’s a magnificent choice whether you’re visiting for lunch, a drink, or a special occasion.
Why we love Sneaton Castle
What we love most about Sneaton Castle is the way it balances the old and the new. Inside, you will find original features everywhere you look, including stonework, wood panelling, and touches that remind you of its long history.
The interiors feel fresh and contemporary, designed to make guests feel comfortable. It’s both wonderfully old and invitingly modern at the same time.
However, on a sunny day, the castle’s outdoor terrace is a lovely spot to chill in Whitby. The gardens are beautiful, with space to wander, sit back, and soak in views that stretch out across the valley. And if you’re lucky, you may even spot some of the resident animals, such as sheep, cows, goats, and alpacas.
Food is another highlight here. The bistro serves dishes made with fresh, local produce, and it’s the kind of place that works just as well for a casual coffee as it does for a relaxed evening meal. After a walk into Whitby town or along the nearby coast, there’s nothing better than finishing up with something tasty in such a unique setting.
Sneaton Castle is also known as a venue for weddings and events, and it’s not hard to see why. We even have one of our own host their wedding here!
