If you’re after a traditional pub with a warm welcome and plenty of soul, The Ship is one of our favourites in Whitby. Found on the west side of the River Esk, just a hop, skip and jump from the harbour bridge, this Grade II listed building has been serving locals and visitors for centuries.
Why we love The Ship
What we love most about The Ship is the atmosphere. There’s always a buzz about the place, whether you’re popping in for a quiet pint after a day of exploring or settling in with friends for a lively evening.
On some evenings, you’ll even find live music adding to the lively, relaxed vibe — the kind of impromptu entertainment that makes a trip to Whitby special.
Another big plus for us is how dog-friendly The Ship is. Whitby is a great place to visit with four-legged friends, and The Ship is one of those pubs where pooches are greeted with the same warm welcome as their owners. You’re looking for a lively night, a pit-stop on your way back from a walk, or just a pint in a proper Whitby pub, The Ship Inn is always a good idea.
